Strømme Foundation
Established in 1976, Strømme Foundation is a non-profit, Norwegian social development organization helping poor people in the global South climb out of poverty through microfinance and education. Our vision is a world free from poverty.

We partner with local non-profit organizations to run long-term programs. By providing people with knowledge and skills, the possibility to save and to access small loans, we help them to reach the ladder leading out of poverty. But the poor have to climb it themselves. This is what we call "help for self-help."

Strømme Foundation creates lasting change in partnership with the tenacious efforts of the poor. At the same time we witness people gaining a sense of self-respect and pride from what they are able to achieve.

In 2006, The Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad) confirmed that Strømme Foundation was the largest and most professional microfinance organization in Norway.

The direct impact of all our development programs in 2007 was 650,000 people in 18 countries. More than 77 percent of those that benefited from our microfinance and education interventions were women. In microfinance alone nearly 395,000 people had access to gainful occupation and as a result, at five members per family, nearly two million people were indirectly assisted.
